About Quilting by the Lake

Quilting by the Lake (QBL) began in 1981 as a four-day quilting conference in Cazenovia, NY, and has grown into a two-week, internationally recognized quilting event attracting over 200 participants from around the country and overseas. From the beginning, QBL recruited some of the most innovative and legendary quilters to teach and that tradition continues today. Classes are offered in design, techniques and surface design. No matter what your style- traditional, art or modern- all quilters are welcome.

Many of our participants have been attending QBL for 10, 15 and over 20 years. One of the longest running quilt conferences in the country, QBL continues to be a special community treasured for its creative environment and camaraderie. In addition to classes, the sessions include lectures, a quilt show and other activities. A highlight of each session is the final Class Show & Tell program on Friday night. The evening is always punctuated with humor, and includes raffle drawings and a faculty apron auction to benefit the QBL Scholarship Fund.

The atmosphere at QBL is friendly and casual, and participants enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, NY. Facilities are modern, accessible and air-conditioned. Housing is in single or double rooms in suite style dorms with 4-5 people per suite. Meals are served in the campus cafeteria.

QBL has provided me with the education and inspiration for my lifelong passion. I will forever be indebted to all the folks that have made it run so smoothly. Who would I have been with out QBL! Plus - all the friends and laughs we have had. Can't wait until I return this summer!
