The White Plains Outdoor Arts Festival (WPOAF) began in 1962 as a small art show featuring local painters and has grown into a show of juried fine artists and craftspeople who come from near and far to show and sell their art.

The WPOAF has become the largest source of art scholarships for White Plains High School seniors who are committed to continuing their education in the arts. Community-minded corporate sponsors provide financial support, as do local business owners and residents who make donations to become a Friend of the WPOAF. Artist's entry fees and an art raffle complete the funding sources.

Through the years the WPOAF has grown from a small show located behind City Hall to its present location in Tibbits Park. Performing Artists, an emerging artists section and a gallery-like show of White Plains Public School student artists (grades K through 12) round out the weekend festivities.

From the beginning the WPOAF has reflected the vision of a committee of dedicated volunteers, who, under the umbrella of the City of White Plains Recreation and Parks Department, organize and coordinate the Festival each year. The Committee manages all of the fundraising activities, advertising and promotion. No paid promoters have ever been employed.
